We found these medals in the Paris fleas and were attracted to them for different reasons. We decided to juxtapose the finely engraved Immaculate Heart medal with the thick and weightly piece that is less exact and refined. Together they present a gorgeous contrast between structure/unstructured and exactness/inexactness.
Front:
Antique gold tone medal showing an image of the Virgin Mary exposing her breast that is decorated with a heart with rays of light shooting out — a reference to Immaculate Heart imagery that reminds the wearer of her unwavering love for humanity. A makers mark is stamped on the front of the medal. The medal also retains its original bail, which is also stamped.
Back:
A spring of lilies, associated with Mary shown alongside hand engraved initials “A. B.” makes this already special medal uniquely the only one of its kind.
Front:
An gold tone medal that does not have a specific image, but rather has an abstract impression on its front and back. We loved the weight of this medal and how the impression captures and reflects light.
Back:
See above description.
