Generations in Gold
We love a generation trio — and this group includes a rarely spotted “Our Lady of Sunday” medal that reminds wearers to take a beat, especially on weekends. We love it!
These gold tone vintage medals all retain their original bails.
#1. Front:
A small vintage octagonal medal featuring St. Anne with its original bail.
Image of Anne (mother of Virgin Mary) with young Mary with surrounding inscription “St. Anne d’Auray:
The medal is from the pilgrimage church and site of Sainte Anne d’Auray, in northwestern France, the third most popular pilgrimage destination after Lisieux and Lourdes.
#1. Back:
St Christopher carrying Infant Christ
According to legends, St. Christopher carried a child across a turbulent river to safety. Not knowing it was Christ, he was later associated with protection for travelers. Today Christopher is a popular saint amongst surfers, many of whom wear and carry these medals.
#2. Front:
We are obsessed with this vintage “Our Lady of Sunday” medal that relates to the story of how the Virgin appeared to a winemaker in his vineyard on June 8 and July 8, 1873, and instructed him not to work on Sundays.
The hexagonal medal is about about ½ inch in length and has its original bail.
The front shows an image of the Virgin Mary flanked by dates: “8 Juin” and “8 Juillet”
#2. Back:
The back of the “Our Lady of Sunday” medal shows a (greek) cross with inscription surrounding it that reads “ll ne faut pas travailler le dimanche” (transl: “you must never work on Sundays”).
#3. Front:
Vintage round medal with image of Sacred Heart of Christ that shows a heart with rays of light bursting from the chest of Christ is a symbol of his compassion for humanity.
#3 Back:
Image showing Virgin and infant Christ child enthroned.
