Antique and Vintage Medals

We love the black and gold combo of this vintage pendant we found made by Movitex, the vintage French jewellery brand that was big in the 1970s.

This pendant, about the size of a quarter, features a kneeling archer (the symbol for Sagittarius) in a gold octagonal pendant dotted with four sparkly diamond like gemstones and is paired with an oval, gold plate miraculous mary medal.

Front:

Image of Mary with inscription (transl. from Latin): “Our queen, born without sin, please pray for us”

Back

Cross and arms with large “M”. The twelve stars represent the Apostles and crown of stars encircling the head of the woman in the sky (referred to in the book of Revelations) The two hearts represent the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart.

This is known as the Medal of Our Lady of Graces or Miraculous medal.

The Miraculous medal was designed in the 19th century after a vision of the Virgin Mary appeared to Catherine, instructing her to spread the word of grace to a world that did not have enough of it. The Miraculous medal is extremely popular. According to Catherine’s vision, anyone who wore this medal would receive great graces.
